Smoky Barrels Offers A Wee Dram And High Tech Hunting

7th October 2021

Imagine a place where you can enjoy some of the best of the Scottish Highlands – amazing whisky, tasty food and the thrill of the hunt – without the blisteringly cold wind, the battering rain, the bloodshed and the lack of bullets … well that’s what awaits you at Smoky Barrels.

This rugged little venue will have you thinking you’ve stepped into a hunting lodge in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. However, despite its earthy appearance, this venue boasts a high-tech, cutting-edge innovation: virtual hunting.

Located beneath Sixes Cricket Club your adventure begins when you pass through the secret doorway into Smoky Barrels.

Although the venue can only host 12 people at a time, it makes sure those 12 people have an experience unlike any other.  An immersive experience which even supplies you with authentic flat caps and Highland tweed waistcoats, should you wish to fully embrace the theme. When you’re dressed and ready for the hunt you simply grab your replica shotgun or rifle and the gaming can commence.

The hunting simulation is displayed on a 10ft screen and, thanks to the world leading Swedish technology, you can hunt your prey and have your score calculated with pin-point accuracy. Scores are displayed on the screen throughout your game so it’s easy to tell who’s Jesse Chisholm (famous Scottish cowboy) and who’s losing, and therefore buying the next round.

To accompany your wild animal hunt Smoky Barrels have exceptionally good and drinks menus – shared with their sister company, Sixes Cricket Club.  These great competitive socialising venues have been developed by friends Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh, the founders of Mac & Wild. Their restaurants and butchers celebrate the finest Scottish produce so, unsurprisingly, the food at Smoky Barrels is beautiful.  You can opt for classic dishes such as Beef Brisket Volcano, Whiskey Glazed Beef Short Rib or Vegan Burger. Alternatively, you can choose a selection of sharing plates which includes low & slow smoked chicken wings, house cured salmon board and mac & cheese croquettes.

You’ll particularly enjoy your visit to Smoky Barrels if you like whisky – there’s a fabulous range on offer. However, if you fancy something a little more celebratory then order yourself one of their spectacular cocktails. Alongside an array of classic cocktails, you’ll find some creative experimental options. How about trying the Eton Mess (Strawberry Pampero Especial rum, ginger foam with brûléed meringue)?

So, whether you’re looking for a really special first date or a night out with friends doing something completely unexpected then a trip to Smoky Barrels could be just what you’re after. Check out their website for information on how to book.
