Roxy Leisure Eye Up York For Booze and Ball Games

25th August 2021

It’s so exciting to see social play venues popping up across the country, this year has seen unprecedented growth in our sector. Roxy Leisure are one of the operators who, following significant investment, are securing sites in a bid to further expand their business.

Next on their list is York. Roxy Leisure have applied for a premises licence for 3 St Mary’s Square in the Coppergate Centre in York, which used to be Topshop. In their application they are seeking permission to screen films as well as operate a bar, play recorded music and serve refreshments until late.

The current plan is to use 15,000sq ft of the site to open a Roxy Lanes, with bowling lanes offered alongside other ball-based games …the details of which Roxy are keeping secret for now. It is thought that the venue will open from midday until 12.30am.

If permission is granted the new Roxy Lanes will hopefully open in the first half of 2022, creating around 30 new jobs. Roxy will also join new addition to Coppergate, The Hole In Wand – wizarding golf.

If Roxy Lanes in Leeds in anything to go by then York can look forward to a funky entertainment venue serving up colourful cocktails, tasty food and a range of games to play. From tenpin bowling to pool, shuffleboard and beer pong.

The development of a site in York follows on from the £7.5 million investment from private equity firm Foresight. As part of this expansion Roxy have already opened The Cornerhouse, Nottingham. Roxy Leisure have also recently announced plans to take over the former BHS on Princess Street in Edinburgh.
